Hi, i am in-need of a new computer, so i have decided to smash up my old one with a hammer and create a new one straight from scratch.
My budget is 400 (GBP) and I may look to salvage and re-use parts from my old computer(s) - such as cables, memory ram, graphics card I am using at the moment.
"It's like building lego" - N.A
So, can someone help me with this scary quest?.
No clue where to start other then "Find motherboard then shit brix after realising it's not good".
I know there are many guides on interweb but I know if something goes wrong someone alive will be around here to help.
Any help will be welcome!
-
Your better off just getting a straight up new computer. If you wanna find quality parts its probably going to be around the same price. Unless you get a decent computer and upgrade the cpu ect.
-
Knowing what you currently have would be good to to start from...
-
Yup, as Icy said tell us what you have right now then what's your EXACT budget and what you plan on using the PC for.
-
Man I just buy: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-p6675uk-07677418-pdt.html (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/hp-pavilion-p6675uk-07677418-pdt.html)
K?
-
Should go fine with most games but if you got any more money buy a new graphic card to that.
-
Get everything you want in order first. Make sure everything is compatible with each other. Put all links of parts you're going to buy somewhere (like a text file) and look over it. THEN buy all of the parts.

If you want shitty quality parts and an integrated graphics card which will throw a hissy fit, k.
Do some research and build your own.
I've listed components that either match the capabilities of the HP PC or are better. Use this as reference only and check compatibility.

If you want to spend less, I'd recommend the AMD route.
-
Or an I3 and a GTX560 instead as graphics cards make the biggest difference in games but other than that Shockk has selected a pretty solid combo.
-
Do NOT use any pcworld, currys, tesco etc - high street brands are very expensive!
www.ebuyer.com (http://www.ebuyer.com) is probably the cheapest way to get what you want.
However when I first built my PC, I used http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/ (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/) .
Novatech has good value for money, but the thing you cannot beat is the service. They have probably the best support forum I have seen. You can post up what you want to buy and they will sort you out, give you reviews, advice and any other stuff.

I second that.

AMD is a another processor maker, usually with abit more cheaper compenents with not as great efficiency, but is a very good option too.

Epic. Posting on an old thread, but still considered this option for months, and until now.
But ofc components like PSU would be sold by now, but could I not go with a 550 w one instead?

If your PSU only just covers the power requirements of the computer, or is not quite powerful enough, it can damage the components in your computer.
More power = Better

On the cards you suggested based on visible specifications alone the 5770 is a little better than the 5670. The only thing is the price of the 5770 compared to the 5670. So that part depends on what you would rather sacrifice. Price or a slight bit of performance (on paper).
-
I recommend a GTX570, a straight up perfect graphic card, for both gaming and other tasks! :)

Will it all work together?
Correct PC Case?
Correct MoBo?
The paste stuff good?
Are any (extra) cables needed? (I don't think they include any cables - I've never bought stuff like this before... / built a whole computer).

I did not use Thermal Paste on my PC at all.
The cooler which came with my Processor has an Adhesive on it that acts as a thermal compound I think

Look towards the sandybridge socket i5. Costs more or less the same as what you have chosen but is quicker according to several online benchmarks.

Seems to be even weaker than what I'd choose for a budget PC [check my other topic in this board].
Use gpureview.com to compare cards.

GT 520 is a VERY weak card, no point buying.
-
Can't you simply sell your old PC and buy a new one ?

More power = Better
That's bullshit, Big capacity PSU wattage = unwasted power = wasted money on bills..
A 600Watt would be good.

Excuse me, I was under the impression that a computer only takes what it needs...
