Ok then, but please explain what you meant by AMD route, what should I get ...
AMD is a another processor maker, usually with abit more cheaper compenents with not as great efficiency, but is a very good option too.

If you want shitty quality parts and an integrated graphics card which will throw a hissy fit, k.
Do some research and build your own.

I've listed components that either match the capabilities of the HP PC or are better. Use this as reference only and check compatibility.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173122 - RAM
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/189741 - Graphics card
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173804 - HDD
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176026 - Optical drive
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143854 - PC case
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176157 - CPU cooler
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/241000 - PSU
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166809 - Wireless mouse and keyboard
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/189292 - Motherboard
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126410 - Thermal compound
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/229999 - CPU
http://www.software4students.co.uk/Microsoft_Windows_7_Professional_64_bit_Upgrade_Edition-details.aspx - Legit W7

If you want to spend less, I'd recommend the AMD route.

Epic. Posting on an old thread, but still considered this option for months, and until now.
But ofc components like PSU would be sold by now, but could I not go with a 550 w one instead?

If your PSU only just covers the power requirements of the computer, or is not quite powerful enough, it can damage the components in your computer.

More power = Better

On the cards you suggested based on visible specifications alone the 5770 is a little better than the 5670. The only thing is the price of the 5770 compared to the 5670. So that part depends on what you would rather sacrifice. Price or a slight bit of performance (on paper).

I recommend a GTX570, a straight up perfect graphic card, for both gaming and other tasks!  :)

I did not use Thermal Paste on my PC at all.

The cooler which came with my Processor has an Adhesive on it that acts as a thermal compound I think

Try to ridicule us, try to demolish our reputation. But be sure to bring a f**king sledgehammer, because we're not going to roll over and die that easily.

Sapphire HD 5670 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
Seems to be even weaker than what I'd choose for a budget PC [check my other topic in this board].

That's bullshit, Big capacity PSU wattage = unwasted power = wasted money on bills..
A 600Watt would be good.

Excuse me, I was under the impression that a computer only takes what it needs...
