[Mouse fix] San Andreas Windows 8(Maybe other games)

If you have a Windows 8 system you may experience the unusable mouse issue in the game. There are a couple of ways you can 'fix' this.


1.
With the game running open up the task manager(Ctrl + alt + del) click the details tab and find San Andreas, from there you will right click and then left click on Set Affinity. Here you will deselect all but one of the cpu's(It can be any really doesn't matter) and then your mouse should work in game. You have to do this on each run.


2.
Download a file called dinput8(It has to be downloaded as simply copying the original from System32 will not work) and place this file in to your San Andreas install directory.

3.
Download themousefix.asi a quoted place in to San Andreas install directory.

It's pretty much the same as dinput8 (it uses Win32API) only it's GTA SA-specific. And it works like a charm.

I know what you mean and no. Just switch from keyboard to Joypad/stick and back that'll normally fix it.

Important Note: 64-bit Windows

If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows (most of the new ones are) you will notice that you have a Program Files and a Program Files (x86)

When downloading some of these mouse fixes there may be options to download different files based on which system you are running. Remember to pick the correct one for your Windows, depending on which folder the game is installed in:


Program Files: For 64-bit programs
These tend to be newer programs, generally


Program Files (x86): For 32-bit programs
Usually these are older programs and include many of the older GTA games


If you're running the newest versions of Windows, such as 8.1, 8 or 7 remember that it is a Windows 64-bit system and download any files accordingly to match.

That is not necessarily true. Windows is still made in 32-bit versions for systems that do not support 64-bit architectures. It is also still possible to install the 32-bit version on a system with 64-bit support by mistake.

64-bit systems generally seem to support both, so the information is generic.
Unless you go for custom installation, most programs seem to automatically accommodate files in the right area.

Most people tend not to pay too much attention to what's going on behind the scenes with 64-bit and 32-bit, and hopefully going on that thought they wouldn't have gone for custom installation and let the PC do its thing, making this info applicable to majority of general users.
The specialist individuals I am sure would not need this anyway. : )

64-bit systems do, yes, but only if the OS and hardware are both running on a 64-bit architecture, from which it will be backwards compatible. A system only running one of the two will not be running at 64-bit, and thus will only be 32-bit capable. A 32-bit system, regardless of any of this, is only able to handle 32-bit software. Not all new systems are 64-bit capable, just as not all old systems are only 32-bit capable.
