New display brought crashes in games

Issue has occurred with many of my games that I (well, used to, with those crashes) play on active basis (ETS2, Rocket League and some others).

After switching to a new display (34" 3440x1440), games just crash at quite random moments (gaming time can vary from 10 minutes to an hour), resulting in gray or brown screen and freezing. Some games (ETS2, for instance) just minimizes and when attempting to bring it back up, sound and controls work, however I am still being displayed desktop, whereas others just freeze completely and require Task Manager to close them.

ETS2 game log gives this error:
Code: [Select]
<ERROR> [dx9] Present failed. [0x88760874]Rocket League game log gives this error:
Code: [Select]
Log: Timed out while waiting for GPU to catch up. (500 ms)
I have attempted to close background processes due to possible focus loss, but it occurred even with all possible notification applications closed. I have tried three different versions of graphics drivers, with and without overclock.

Googling hasn't given much help so far. Usual multitasking works fine without any issues.

Specifications:
Intel i7-4790k
32GB RAM
Geforce GTX 980 Ti
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

To be honest it might be your GPU

Could you maybe take a photo/ screenshot of when the issue is occuring, I remember having something like this after I had not used my computer for a while, it was sadly my HDD and I had to replace it.

Just in case, I suggest you to back up your information, I can not confirm that it is your HDD but it does sound familiar (and yes, my games did suddenly crash and I had the same screen flickering issues)

How ever, the issue with ETS sounds like an issue I currently have on my computer, where I regularly have to reinstall my graphics driver (how ever that's an old GPU)

Every game that crashes, gives a D3D or GFX error, related to graphics initialization. Could be my GPU, which kinda sucks. Issue started after I switched to new display.

Issue occurs in many games at random times, nothing specific (GTA:V also, just happened). My data is backed up to a NAS, so no worry about that. HDD is quite new (6TB WD RED), less than a year old with not that many working hours.

Can you try any other display?

That indeed looks like a failing GPU - the new monitor might be straining it a little bit more (even if you're not playing at the actual monitor resolution), making your GPU more prone to errors. I recommend you try a stress test with FurMark to see if it's  an issue with your GPU, 30 minutes should be enough. (do it on both monitors just to be absolutely sure).

If it crashes, halts, starts glitching or anything, you got bad news.

Interestingly enough, I haven't had any crashes recently, guess another driver downgrade helped there. Therefor locked.
