Again...if guns are outlaws, how are we supposed to protect ourselves from the people who do have guns? Are we supposed to cower in a corner while the man steals our precious items? I think not. Simply, if guns are outlawed, only the bad people will have the guns.

that is quite a conservative view, isnt it?
well, in poorer districts, they feel the impact of this crime a lot more than you probably do.
that is the problem with politicians, they attempt to get to the root of problems and change things, but they generally dont understand what theyre trying to change.
out of interest, is there much gun crime in your area?

If drinking and driving is illegal, why do bars have parking lots?

Have you ever heard about guys that are called cops ?
Oh wait I have seen the US cop chase shows  Guess you are right...they are worthless so people have no protection at all from guys with guns.

Outlawing guns would cause more violence then it would a decrease of crime, people arn't going to give up their guns, we don't always own guns for the destruction of our fellow humans, we may kill some pests, or kill for some food.

Gandalf, I have to agree with you on this one...the cops in my area are EXTREMELY useless. A punk kid could light a firecracker in a secluded alley in my town and a cop would write him a ticket while some lady was getting robbed right in front of him.
that is quite a conservative view, isnt it?

For one, I can't say that I do feel the impact of gun crimes...however, I am fairly sure that the people who do feel impact would want to have some protection. Number two, you are calling me a politician because you think I don't understand this matter? So you probably then, wouldn't understand outlawing guns as a liberal politician. BTW, there is not much gun crime in my area, however I live in a town of 10,000 and a lot of those people are old or children. Most people have a gun, but never have to use it.

in 2006 there was a voting to decide if guns would be outlawed or not in Brazil. The answer was an utterly uber NO.
The main reason is that there was no point to forbid it to people that follow the laws, while leaving criminals getting those guns illegally. HOWEVER, it's VERY unusual to see a normal citizen in Brazil that has a gun.

I can understand the purpose of having a gun IF you live in a rural area, since it's rare to see the police there, and also hunting there is understandable if you do it for a living or to protect yourself from agressive animals (Which is very rare situation). Hunting for fun/sport is totally against my conception (which of course, is different from other people's) as I think that is one of the factors that contribute to ruin our fauna. Also, think it this way: (this may be really hard): Imagine I'm the hunter and you the animal, I think hunting is fun and I have no respect for your life, and you have to run like hell if you don't want one of the bullets on your ass. Good Luck.

Well, I got an iPod nano...
I needed it for running and drumming so I dont mind, My dad said he would get me a gun next christmas anyway.

INstead of a gun now, i have a razor sharp pocket knife in my room so when a guy comes in at night, go jackie chand and throw the knife at him (trust me I know how to.)

ANyways my dad offered me a 20 gauge gun, so that wouldn't do much.  ANyways my family already has a gun, so my dad would be first to react.
Off topic, IM training my self how to take a pistol out of a attacker's hands when he points it at you, and its going well.

Oh and to watahell, the world won't get better, it's time to accept that.  Our math class (me, this kid, and a teacher.) were debating on how to stop war.

I went strate up and said nuke untill we get our demands
No nuking in Uk or Europe, im saying Iraq and shit places like that.

I'm glad you understood my point and made a wise choice. :hurray:

Except... for that last paragraph...

Iraq isn't a shit country. Actually, no country is. All countries have their importance, culture and individuality. No country is superior than another in those aspects. (Maybe importance, but only on some cases).

No wonder gun crime is so rife over there. A gun, and a shotgun at that, for a 12 year old is quite rediculous.

Shifter you had to agree iwth one or the other which I put, not a fair choice.
I still remember when in the UK there was indignation over the fact that the 'Bobby's' would start wearing a gun, as their presence alone was no longer enough to get respect.
In the US there has always been the 'free spirit' where people would settle their differences rather without the law stepping in.

Europe has it much easier as with less space there are less areas where it is impossible to uphold the law. On the other hand, Russia outlaws guns as well.
The good thing about it is that it is real easy for the cops to separate the good guys from the bad guys....

Well, the answer doesnt lie in violence. remember the wise words of Gandhi...
I wasnt calling YOU a politician. i was merely incinuating that THEY dont understand.
How wouldnt i. my uncle IS a liberal politician, and i have discussed issues such as this with him many a time. I think i understand quite well - not fully - but well

Lol I was really confused when I was reading Gandalfs post. Well I think that we can probably agree to disagree since we have gone even further in the off topic section and started doing double off topicness. But I understand that you guys have your good points and I have mine so lets just leave it at that.

if you had taken it in context, youd have realised i meant killing for fun/sport.

If drinking and driving is illegal, why do bars have parking lots?

Animals are not only killed for meat... and besides that we are predators. A lion is much more sloppy in killing than people.  ;)

* Think of ho many polyesters are killed for one sweater....
* Plants have feelings too.. no more cotton or using fig leaves....
