This has been recently discussed on the ARPD forums as well.
The main [IC and OOC] reasons behind it are actually quite simple:
1. Certain ranking officers should be devoted to their law enforcement job and should not have the time to roleplay a criminal.
and
2. Certain ranking officers should not be participating in criminal activities when they are law enforcement officers that know WAY better than to ever do such a thing.
As for changing your name, I agree, and this
NEEDS to be set. RON and Ronnel have already said that changing your name has nothing to do with the roleplaying name. Your username is purely for account purposes only, not for roleplay purposes. You can even double-check this in the "/changename will be removed" topic here on the forums. The rule needs to be set that you
SHOULDN'T change your
ACCOUNT name between characters, but that you
SHOULD change your
IN-CHARACTER name that you are roleplaying with when going between the two factions. This solves the issue and removes /changename from the argument. I'm pretty sure, considering that I can even quote the topic it came from, that RON and Ronnel would easily agree to setting such a rule on ALL servers.
For those who will be unhappy and complaining "this is not RP then'... We have an MTA VC server without changing nicks... And people roleplay and know each other good... Nick is an option of player registration and not an option of roleplay...
