Do cops do the right thing?

Working for themselves? Or working for the good of the citizens? YOU DECIDE!

By RPing a cop and civilian, I have seen many injustices take place. Mainly this involves the good guys getting punished and bad guys being treated unfairly. I have seen excellent RP'ers do a great performance whilst being investigated - all in vain since the investigator has already decided that they will go to jail for xxx time regardless of their RP and reasoning.

What I personally believe in when I am a cop:
- Reward good imaginative RP by going along with it and believing them.
- If it's believable - believe them!
- If I were in their situation, what would I have done?
- Did the criminal do the right thing? Did he do he genuinely want to help or have no other choice?
- Is the crime even worth /su  or jail?

All these factors I take into account before jailing or punishing a suspect through other RP way. If everyone did this, there might actually be a point to investigating?

This poll is a complete generalisation. There are always cases either side. This is about morality and if cops really give a shit about whether they are doing their job for the good of the civilians, or do you think they are just in it for the cash? Are criminals just numbers to them? Or are the criminals treated as citizens in a bad situation, asking for help?

I guess you should post this one on ARPD forums   :D

I believe I do the right thing :devroll: All you can do is teach those misguided, show them that the point of this server is to roleplay, and that you'd have a lot more fun doing it then getting $100 from killing an orange dot.

Just recently I tried something.

I blew right past Lt Hank Rafferty And Officer Tommy Lings at like 180 KM/H. I was in a Buffalo and they were in a Infernus.

They try to make me pull over, I refuse and floor it. I get suspected and they IMMEDIATELY open fire on me and my car. They manage to take out one of my tires, I spin out and the car blows up.

What I wonder is WHY they did not even try to take me out by PITing me, or other means before resorting to destroying my vehicle. They had a INFERNUS, the fastest car in the game, they could easily try to PIT me or try to convince me to stop and surrender. I can't outrun a Infernus in a Buffalo. They have SO many ways to stop me, but they decide to go with the easiest one.

I mean.. COME ON.. I was wanted for speeding/evading. They had the superior vehicle and they still do shit like that..

When I get suspected I feel like I'm playing a Cops'n'Robbers server..

/Rant off.

To answer your question Jcstodds, no I do not think cops are working for the good of the citizens.

Whenever I want to be chased by cops for a while, the chase ends very quickly because of cops firing (and not letting the trigger off even when the car is burning).

Can't you cops chase for the fun of chasing someone and not for catching someone as fast as possible?

Play for fun and friendship, not for stats or achievements.
If you do not want to roleplay, log off. Remember that "do not force RP" does NOT mean you can refuse to interact with other players.

In my opinion, so in yours JC /gu, /su and /jail are completely retarded commands which kill the role-play/investigation... People defend the existence of these commands just because they doubt the suspect will follow the officer's orders and run away... When a player surrenders, he will turn himself in. If he decided to flee after giving up, he'll be surely punished for that.

You want to increase cop role-play in our server and put an end to the cops =/= criminals concept? Remove those commands.

I did, a few minutes after posting this one  :cop:

Although results might be swayed slightly as people can vote twice (although it will mean that cops opinion is greater, assuming more cops in ARPD forums vote than civilians.)

The infernus is one of the fastest cars, and one of the weakest... if i ramm your car with infernus the carhp goes down 50/100, or less.. if i ramm twice, my car blows up. Thats why i have passanger to drive by if a suspect tries to evade us.

Speeding is a crime, and yes.. we usually try to pull you over before suspecting, except you provoking the cops with ramming or extremly driving reckless.

:ps: if you drive on the left side of the road, dont except me to be nice with you

Stop there....There appears to be some unrest among criminals about SAPD procedure...
We are authorised to use whatever means necessary to take down a dangerous criminal - if that criminal is causing danger by speeding and driving like a maniac, you can do 1 of two things - shoot them (passenger, DB on bike), or PIT / Ram them (Sometimes hard on some cars). There is no other option for cops here. A criminal will NOT stop in the middle of a chase. They must be neutralised before someone gets hurt.

If a criminal is on foot, throwing around a gun and scaring civilians, a police officer can use pepper spray, baton, deagle, SMG or shotgun to subdue the suspect.  You are a threat to people, we take whatever means necessary to bring an end to this threat. If you want to RP being a threat, we will also RP removing the threat. Simple as that. You cause a reaction from cops, not the other way around.

Was playing criminal role for almost an year, and I couldn't talk without ever playing as a cop..
I'm now playing as cop again, and regarding the poll, I voted for: No.
I, as a cop, try to RP as long as I can, but it's too hard to RP with a wanted suspect - If they're suspected, they barely pull over and when they exit the car is to shoot us..

Just me and myself..

Even as I am a cop for a long time, I will vote no.
I've seen to much of the cops (I am talking about ARPD ones) going crazy when the other side does have a orange name.

In this I mean, there is a lot of improvement possible in roleplay situation for as example in:
#1: Investigatements (use your imagine, and don't decide before the RP already you are going to get $600 because you wanna jail and he is orange)
#2: Roleplay when arresting a suspect (Basically, 80% screams around: "/GU OR I KILL YOU", try to more RP an arrest and continue the RP from there)
#3: Weaponusage (Currently deagle and SMG are default weapons to shoot everything what's orange, the spraycan and nitestick seems to be useless for now. But these last 2 weapons are actually reaching more RP then just shooting on someone orange - remember the UZI law inside ARPD? If you're an old regular player you would remind them and I hope you would agree with me, that that rule should come back.

Aswell the moaning towards criminals when they get shot at, or when they are killed.
Most likely you will be called a "cophunter" (define that term for me please?) and you will be moaned at in the public chat.
Still I am wondering, why you should be moaning? You got your damn guns for free and criminals have to buy them and even a lot of them are not moaning when THEY got killed (YOU, as cop, even earn money for that)

There are several issues who can be improved from both sides (cop and criminal), mostly regarding RP visions.
Try to RP your situations more and let a criminal more decide in the end of a roleplay, because mostly every roleplay ends in a boring: /GU NOW, I NEED TO JAIL YOU AND I NEED $600 or if you're being investigated NO, YOU ARE GUILTY - /GU NOW, I JAIL YOU

Hope I said enough with this, feel free to reply.

That's because they are used to the fact, we cops, open fire directly without any attempt of RP.
Example of what I like - yesterday, I shot a guy who was suspected and he did /hurt 2 or something (don't know the actual command).
We did continue the RP by recovering from his shotwounds (he was about to die and stuff) including paramedics.
Out of the blue, by just chasing a suspect.

When YOU try to RP - you can pull multiple people in it. And that will have a positive affect, and I am sure you know that aswell Kevin.

When I get suspected I feel like I'm playing a Cops'n'Robbers server..

You're contributing to it.

Oh, and yes i do believe some contribute/ "do the right thing" to the community. However, it depends on what you think contribution is. Cleaning up the streets? Arresting criminals? Shooting criminals? Everyone is going to have a different view on this topic. And if you haven't made an effort to truly in depth roleplay with the civilians and criminals and vice verca, your response will be no.

Here's a situation.
*Me driving around in my Admiral*
Cop says (megaphone): THIS IS THE LAWL! PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!
*I pull over*
Cop says: hello u speed pay tiket or i sus
Me: I don't think I was speeding officer.
Cop says: yes u speed dont lie or i sus
Me says: I can honestly claim you have no proof I have been speeding whatsoever.
Cop says: you liar get out
Me says: You have no right-..
*Cop suspected Me for refuser*
Cop says: /gu press /gu /gu /gu!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me says: What did I do?
Cop shoots me through the window, killing.

For the poll, no, cops don't do the right thing. If there's going to be freecops there needs to be some restrictions or a small test, because this is just "omg u orange man, omg u speed, /gu or i kill!!!!1!!11one!1!one!!"

No. I agree with your points Jcs, that's what all cops should think.

But what grinds my gears the most is all the gunfights on the server like Alan said. Cops will shoot you for dangerous driving, speeding and refusing to stop when told! What's that! Shit, and you're not even armed with anything!

When I'm joyriding and in the mood for a carchase I want a good olde chase on the country roads without three cops leaning out the windows shooting at me with submachine guns... Even if I'm unarmed, drive a car like Regina and get suspected for speeding I'll get shot at if they have SMGs...

I think the use of SMGs should be like... restricted to criminals that poses a serious threat to the cops chasing them. Armed robbers, kidnappers, killers etc. And that rule should be enforced.

ie. Not opening fire at a 16-year old that stole an old lady's car to drive some mailboxes down...
