By the way, fact: Those of having mother language as Russian have sometimes difficulty constructing sentances from Russian into English. The problem is that Russian language apart from Roman languages build up sentances in a diffirent way than in Roman languages. I think this also fits for other Slavian languages. My English teacher explained me something about it, and most of the time when I speak English and i get mistakes in works, they're simply because Englishmen are supposed to say in a way I never would've thought of while talking in Russian. This can also apply for other languages.

I correct people so they would learn, and people take that as trolling, and I think it's stupid... People doesn't try to improve their English but they try to force people to understand their bad English, that's what I hate. I always tried to improve my English for years and I'm now much better in English than I was three years ago.

When I started to play on Argonath, my English was kind of lack, I basically skipped school so I never got taught the basics, really.
I had visibly big issues with a/an and all the other basics, which is necessary to know about. It was very conspicuous to look at. By playing more and more, I got more used to use these phrases and words, so it frankly got stuck automatically. The last year here on Argonath, I've been playing with people who talk splendid English, some of them are more likely from any English speaking country. By observing and spontaneously asking them questions that will help myself improve my own knowledge, I unquestionably took a huge step at the right direction. Your own knowledge of the language we're talking here, is making you a better role-player. That is inevitable. By just knowing the basics of the language, makes the role-play basic. By using details and words that you even define "difficult to spell" will improve the scenario you're role-playing.

But SOMETHING I really HATE is people who messes up the punctuation. Quick example of what I mean:
Hello , I am Que ! W'zup yo ? ? .
I mean, seriously?
I'm not writing this to disparage anyone, but I'm writing this to let you guys know that it looks completely awful and it's nor cool in any way, trust me.
People who writes like this usually does it because it looks awesome, and because they are in a particular age where you want to do what is totally yooo. Hopefully they'll grow up from it.

Yeah, it's the same with Swedish. We put the words in a different way than English, so it's kind of frustrating to put them at the right place sometimes. You like involuntarily put them where they should not be at. That's something you have to work very hard with to get it perfectly.

People should actually be glad that some people want to teach them the right way of spelling, or whatsoever. It doesn't necessarily have to be trolling.

Well, I am a fluent English speaker, I've never discriminated against the way others speak/write. However sometimes I correct mistakes to help them improve, but I don't constantly shove the fact that their English isn't perfect into their face. If someone does provoke you because of your English grammar level, just report them, they cannot judge you. They may have a better vocabulary than you but you may be a better person than them.

Many English I have met would admit that they were using the worst version of their own language.
As in general, what is important is that people understand your meaning. If it is written in perfect grammar and punctuation, or with help of a translator does not really matter to me.

Native speakers will usually have more trouble understanding foreign English, especially if they know just English as language. By adding more languages, you learn to understand the general building of sentences in a way people will understand.

In international business I have learnt not to use a very high level of English. The more complicated you write, the higher the chances are someone will need an interpreter. Direct communication is always the best.

I don't agree with Doggi on this one.

I think some players just put more effort on writting correctly and others doesn't. It's all the same...

I suppose I have C1 level.
In Estonia you get official B2.2 level recognized if you get 80+ points on your A-level exam.

For f**k sake Daco, you think that's funny?
Are you serious, sir? That add-on is a great tool and has helped me many times. I have learned the correct way of spelling countless words with it... and you take that as an insult? What is wrong with you? Daco is just trying to help.

I'd also suggest that add-on. I don't really see it as a insult.
It has helped me a lot, as I usually tend to get confused with how many letters one word has ("depend"/"deppend", for example).
Related to the discrimination against those who can't speak in proper English...at least in 2009-2010 there wasn't (at least, that was noticeable - lol, I just wrote noticeble, corrected it thanks to the add-on) any kind of discrimination like that.
I haven't witnessed anything like that, but I've witnessed people who can write understandable English being discriminated for writing "liek dis".

For me, any discrimination comes from the fact that you'd expect a smart and educated english person to speak very well, but would expect a dirty chav (for example) to speak like he learnt how to do so using a bloody cereal box or something. It's an innate prejudice that I therefore sometimes judge (often incorrectly) people's intelligence and more based off of the way they speak or write. For example, I once met a french person who didn't speak much english at all, and my mind almost wanted me to treat him like a child (even though he was actually older than me). Anyone whose main language is not English is liable to fall under this prejudice of mine so, in advance, sorry gents.

As for those who are not native english speakers, until you do actually perfect the way you speak or write in english, please take advice from those who do. They are probably trying to help you improve your english skills and also avoid prejudices like I mentioned above.

Careful observers will note that there are no Kumichos that do not have and regularly use TS in Araatus, and to top that off none that do not speak with a British or American accent. This is mainly due to actual ability to understand rather than the prejudice I mentioned above, so you should take that into account when getting angry at people judging you - i.e. they may simply not be able to comprehend your meaning whether in voice or text. In such case, be patient with them if they are with you and try to explain your meaning using a different structure or with different words.

Its not just based on effort, some people try their best to speak the most fluent English but may not appear to put much effort into the way they express themselves. And no, it is not all the same.

Btw, is it just me or have people's English improved in this topic alone? I've noticed some people speaking a high level English in this thread. Maybe they are just trying harder?

I always go with the person who can express themselves properly. You can always teach a person who you can communicate proficiently with something new, but you can't teach a person who you can't communicate with.
