Partially true. The last part (dont know shit about the server) is untrue, as far as I'm concerned in Gvardia.

The reason for lenience towards good English is for enhanced communication. If someone on the admin team had very shitty English skills, they'd find it difficult to follow even the most basic procedures and will be unable to punish players in accordance to the rules. Also, the higher-ups will find it difficult to communicate with them.

In Gvardia, if you have a hard time understanding basic English, we may be unable to discipline you appropriately. Fortunately, a lot of our members speak Serbian, giving some members who know Serbian and some basic English an advantage when they don't quite catch something.

Imagine the "when i have in lspd i kill all polices and one admins" guy in the admin team with that kind of English.

I myself got many google translated messages on Russian...
I can honestly say that some of them took me a time to understand... And even a help from Gandalf... 
But no way I will write an answer like: lol learn first Russian then come to me or OMG FAIL You must write this or that sentence in other way!!!!

Opposite, I do respect such attempts of players and it shows me that they respect me as well... And I have no worries to try to understand them...

I think English speaking players just do not respect others because they think that all should know English by the default...
They do not understand what is this for foreigner to know a foreign language, to talk on it and even to think on it...

So I suggest those who do not like Argonath players talking bad English - try to talk with them on their language... Then you will understand what work is that and, probably, you will start respect them, not just as dude from net who sucks in your perfect English...

With due all respect, someone who can write in perfect English looks better on an application. The problem is, how are you supposed to know how good someone is if writing on a crap application form?
For example, I admit I will tend to pick someone with a better knowledge of the English language for the Air Traffic Control team, as it looks more professional over the radio. But on the other hand, their general knowledge of the English language could be poor, but because they have studied how to speak over the ATC radio, they could be perfect! Time just needs to be spent watching how people work...

Aragorn, I love the way you write...you and Gandalf write totally differently, which I think makes you work well as a team. You're a definite "no bullshit" kind of guy, and usually make me laugh with how blunt and to the point your answers are.
Some people, however, you see writing English which is barely comprehensible. I'll respect if someone uses more simple English, but does it properly, rather than someone who tries to write huge words and doesn't get it right...maybe it is wrong, but I normally like to see good grammar. Certain aspects of the server need that, and others do not.

It does make me smile when I see someone writing in a way which makes perfect sense, but has extra words in there which we would not normally say...because to me it feels like they are really making an effort to speak correctly. I won't knock someone down because of that at all! Mind you...I don't knock anyone down on their language anyway...


About spell-checkers...I automatically get one when I am using the Opera browser, and it annoys me when it underlines words like "recognise" because I have spelt it in the English way...not the American! Though I really can't be bothered changing it. While on that subject, "spelt" also gets underlined! It is the official Queen's English spelling, but in America people mostly use "spelled", so on my dictionary that's what it recognises...

Having good english skills is the VERY BEST basis to gain knowledge of the server. To get to know advanced and professional RP.
Having a good imagination is quite useless if you cant express yourself. And thats the whole point.
And since your RP skill is mostly determined by the way you can express yourself, meaning how good you speak english, theres no need to discuss any further.

And otherwise, little english, much server knowlege, and you dont get shit!!

Like stated before, you cant do shit with "little english", so thats what you get with it.


"Knowing about the server" means nothing to me personally. And I bet many people are with me, because most "server knowledge" comes naturally (and even faster if you understand english well).


Bad english might have these effects on people you talk with:
They assume youre:

Low age (Immatureness, Hard / sometimes impossible to explain stuff)
Low Education (Hard / sometimes impossible to explain stuff)
Intentional Trolling (Making fun of people, harassing them)

Me personally, I dont refuse to roleplay with new, young or "dumb" players at all. (I am referring to my three points, not to Argo players actually)
But I refuse to roleplay with those who are unable to communicate and express themselves (in english).

And dont blame others if they dont want to RP with you because you lack it.
