Car repair kit

Okay lets say you drive around in car and someone start shooting your car and then your car starts to smoke.
If u have a car repair kit you can fix your engine (not the whole car only the engine) and start driving again.
You first have to buy a repair kit from Phills place.

If car engine is damaged and the player already has a repair kit he just sits in the car (or goes infront of the hood if its scriptible) and types /c repaircar
If the player doesnt have a repair kit and wen he goes to buy one he has to type /c buyrepairkit or /c buykit.

If the car starts smoking (black smoke) the engine dies (and the car stops lol) and you have to call a engeneer or use a car repair kit to fix it or just push the car to the pns (lol hard) and keep kessu happy :P

Altho it would be nice to have an engineer in team when perfoming certain operations

Yup but what if you cant drivw anymore of ypur car has black smoke? People willdrive more carefully and call a engineer then rather walk to the pns and buy a kit or something!

I see the RP applications for this, but is there an easy way to explain what it is in terms of roleplay? Not against the idea, just looking for a way to have it make sense to those in-game. I'm trying to think of an example to give myself, but this one is tricky. Anyone else have any ideas?

I think muzzie pointed it out pretty much, but if you meant when engineer is needed; drift races and such to fix loads of cars :p

The engineer part I get. The part I'm trying to find a RP example of is what the actual "object" of a Car Repair Kit is. There isn't really such a thing in real life, so I'm trying to figure out how you explain it to users in a RP'ed fashion. The engineer part is easy because for them it could be seen as car parts and tools, but to the average user who isn't roleplaying having automotive repair experience, the script is only seen as a script that repairs the car and nothing more. What I'm trying to do here is figure out a RP explaination behind it.

For example, if someone made a script that could lock your car doors, it has both a literal explanation because it's a script that locks the car doors, but it also has a RP explanation of a car door lock that a user presses to keep the doors locked. With this topic's idea, you have the literal explanation of it being a script to identify it by, but there's no RP'ed explanation for what it actually is. That RP'ed explanation is what I'm seeking an idea for.

Well you see, its common that men are able to fix their vehicles. Altho it takes more time to figure out whats wrong and how to fix it when you are inexperienced. Thus longer waiting time should be added - like 15 sec for engineer and 30 sec for using repair kit. Car repairing kit is a quite heavy chest of tools and certain spare parts, thus you can only carry one. I know there are always some little unreal aspects about things like this (example: food can heal gunshot wounds), but they are inevidable if you actually want to play the game.

That sort of explanation was actually a great example of what I was looking for. I think you pretty much made things made sense now.
