Those in other communities may not be getting anything of physical value, but they are gaining an advantage over others through those methods. Argonath's Vision has never, and will never, allow such. Some may see it as a good idea to help the community, but as long as it violates the community's founding, it won't be put into place.
It is possible, but takes too long to get DNS on it, and they could easily just attack the new IP right after.

Well I actually ment that in both cases infact you get nothing so for those willing to pay for those advantages (basicly the Forums name lol) simply pay to keep the server up ... YOu actually have advantages by doing this  but not only for your self

Though, if you would only send the ip in pm to users who are older then 2 weeks and dont have a punishment, I think it should work.
But as i said im not a expert ;)
You would be sending out thousands of PM's, with most users not knowing. That would backlog the email server heavily, and most people wouldn't see the PM in time to actually connect.

Malicious users could easily get the IP from someone else anyway.

It would still be considered an advantage to anyone who can do it, because it would mean only those who donated money for said features would have access to them. That means others who don't or can't donate wouldn't be seen as equal in basic rights.

How about those toys admins can spawn?
Like the small helicopter/tank/plane and such?
They dont really give a advantage.

Those are spawned for events. If admins use their rights for themselves, they are abusing their positions, and you may report them to their Managers+.

Admins can't spawn mini helicopters.. Only Managers+, so report them to CL+ :D

Just lower the TTL to 5 minutes and have a backup-IP ready, nullroute the ip which is under attack and off you go.

It can still take a long time to propagate worldwide.

True, however that's mainly due to DNS systems which rely heavily on caching and don't respect TTL's set by authoritative servers.

Well I guess you could let everyone know about it ... before it is needed but yeah forsure the DDoSer would also find his way ... Maybe telling it only to 1month+ players or so ... like sending 1000 messeges a day ... so everyone will know it in idk .. some months?

That's not what SugarD meant :)

We were discussing making a CNAME or A  DNS record such as samp.argonathrpg.com. You can specify that the IP associated with that must be re-checked by your PC and all other DNS systems worldwide every five minutes. So during an attack, in theory the new IP should be up within 5 minutes.

SugarD correctly stated that some systems might take longer to make the change to the new IP worldwide.

Well I do not know much about but I got what you mean ... Well how much would that longer be? like 10 hours? and maybe it should be reduced to like ever 30minutes or so ... (I mean the checking for the new ip)

Sometimes it can take up to 2 days.

The problem is that some DNS servers save the record in their cache so they don't have to re-check which IP belongs to samp.argonathrpg.com every time someone asks for it. TTL (Time to live) which can be set to 5 minutes by Gandalf, means every server should discard the IP from their cache after 5 minutes. In reality, most servers don't do this and will take longer (sometimes hours, yes).

TO GANDALF

Why don't you make a DDo's Attack Protection team that will have access to the System 24/7 like 50 people 25 people daily and 25 people at the night so we will have a chance to block them
