Long time ago that I wrote any story, and I never thought of writing horror novels, you'll see why:
"The forests were bathing in the moonlight as three travellers unite at the gates of the city, fortunately they both had their own source of light. The young lass was holding a Lantern, the energetic lad held a torch and their father held an orb that shone as bright as a star. The gatewatcher was gazing down upon the travellers as he overheard their discussion, apparently they were going on a quest. The lass doubted the proposal of her brother to take the quest of the forest, and she said to go to the mountains instead. The children went into a feud and their father quickly had to separate them, upon he mentions that anger would "feed" the darkness. Both looked to him asking what this "darkness" was, but the father held himself silent as they moved to the forest. At the edge of the emerald grass, the children had ignited their sources of light as the father warned them to stay close to each other. Eventually they set foot upon the grass as they ventured inside...
The first thing that happened was several constrictions by loose vines and branches, and eventually they reached an open spot inside the sea of leaves. The son had doused the flames of his torch to prevent a fire, and the only sources left were the Lantern and the orb. The father was reading through his notebook to see what had to be done for this quest, and the objectives were as following; To find valuable objects dropped by various soldiers whilst being careful for any ferocious fauna. As the father raised his head to watch for his children, he only noticed that the daughter was standing close to him, the lantern nowhere in sight. According to the poor lass, her brother had taken the lantern to go and find those objects. The father gave the orb to his daughter and he ran inside the forest, filled with anger and looking for the daft light of the lantern. The lass held tight to the orb, that was still shining bright as the stars above.
Then, a faint groan could be heard, the snapping of thick branches and the scratching of nails filled the ambience and shortly after, only the wind could be heard...
The lass was worried, thinking that something must've attacked her family, she held on tighter to the orb as she slowly advanced towards the wall of trees. The patch of grass turned darker and darker as she went closer, and another faint groan could be heard. She startled and directly walked back to the middle, but it was dark... The orb didn't have any influence anymore in the light, and yet it kept shining brightly. Eventually; she noticed the light of the lantern flashing by, and standing still after moving clockwise. The lass dropped her sphere in relief and walked towards the flickering light of the lantern...
The gatewatcher had picked up a telescope as he saw a shining bright star in the forests, upon getting a closer look, he could only see that orb. As the sun rose, the orb dimmed in its brightness... eventually disappearing from sight."
Probably not scary at all ^^
