Title: Donations
Post by: Gandalf on July 29, 2007, 02:13:24 pm
For those who visit our main website it may be known that we have a link called 'Donations'. This link is now working, donations can be made by PayPal.

Argonath RPG is free for all, and this will not change.

By making a donation a player does not get any rights or priviledges over other players. It is not possible to buy our scripts, buy admin rights or any other thing that others may offer. Making a donation will not get you unbanned, join a clan or whatever else you can imagine in return. Donations will not give you influence in decisions, get your ideas promoted or stop people flaming you.
Donations are completely voluntary.

The only thing that donations will do is contribute to the cost of running our servers and websites. We will use donations only for continuing and expanding Argonath RPG. This we can and will do without donations. We offer the possibility upon request of players, and for no other reason.

I think it would help you a lot :)

But do you need credit card to send money to PayPal? Or can i transfer money from Egold to Paypal?

If you have a Bankaccount you are fine. Cant Imagine someone not having a bankaccount, or you must be really young or poor xD.
Just register, select you want to send money to paypal account and take the bank transfer option.
Then you send an amount of money to Paypal with a special code you get from the site so paypal knows it yours. It will be added (depending on your bank and digital/paper transfer) in about 5 days.
I luv paypal, especially for Ebay  :alc:

You dont have to add your bank account, its optional if you want to be verified paypal member.
Because any bank capable of sending money transfers to the paypal bank can use paypal.
Whether paypal accepts your bank as verification bank or not, you can use paypal.
The difference is that you need to add money to your paypal account as a kind of credits if you are not verified (you have to send money yourself to the paypal bank that can take up to a week ), if you are verified with for example a credit card, you dont have to do that and you will be able to pay as much as you want. Paypal will take the money from your creditcard.

We are pleased to announce the following changes to your PayPal account:

In a few months from now, PayPal users in Italy and users in the Card Withdrawal Regions (listed below) will be able to withdraw funds from their PayPal accounts through credit, debit and/or pre-paid cards that show the Visa or MasterCard logo.

If, until now, you have only been able to send funds with your PayPal account, these changes mean that soon you will also be able to receive and withdraw funds through PayPal using credit, debit and/or pre-paid cards with the Visa or MasterCard logos. The User Agreement will be amended for users in the Card Withdrawal Regions and it will also contain provisions for those who may already have these features.

The Card Withdrawal Regions include: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Gibraltar, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia and Slovenia.

This has already happened, and on the 28th of September, these countrys were accepted as full members of Paypal Ltd. :)

I don't have a paypal account for a simple reason. It one of the best way to get stolen through Internet.

And for the same reason, I don't trade money through internet.

And cause banks are connected to the internet, I don't thrust banks either.

Yup, I use a Visa Debit in UK to buy all my things. I have > £14,000 in there, and nothing has been stolen, no identity theft yet, and I'm still ok. I buy things from the internet using PayPal and Google checkout every single day. I'm safe, and it's safe too. They make it too dramatic saying your identity will be stolen. I don't even believe in identity thefts...

the only problem i have seen with trading over the net is when my uncle had $20,000 stolen from him. which he got back from Insurance, so even if you do get ripped, as long as you have insurance your fine..

back on topic, i would of donated, but i dont have a paypal account, and i cant use my debt cards over the internet. so once i turn 18 i shall have a credit card so.. you are going to have to wait about one year and one month to see money from me :)

Jamal that is totally incorrect.
Firstly dont make useless comments up.
Secondly your money will go towards paying for the server and when possibly upgrading the server.
This money will not go unwasted and you will keep argonath running for longer.

Argonath RPG is free for all, and this will not change.

The only thing that donations will do is contribute to the cost of running our servers and websites. We will use donations only for continuing and expanding Argonath RPG. This we can and will do without donations. We offer the possibility upon request of players, and for no other reason.

Whats the point in making a group? Are you guys gonna bake cookies or so?

if someones donate 5$ irl, then he gets about 5.000 Argonathian$ ???
10$ - 10k
15$ - 15k
20$ - 20k
25$ - 25k

and so on till a limit, or add packages for 50$ donations and up :P

I will personally donate some soon enough :)

I hear alot people saying : i wan't to donate but i don't got paypall

Seriously guys whats the good thing of saying it here?

Think about it, please don't go offtopic here :)

Why do people think that people whom donate should earn some reward or prize for doing so?

According to Princeton University:

Quote
donation - contribution: a voluntary gift (as of money or service or ideas) made to some worthwhile cause
donation - contribution: act of giving in common with others for a common purpose especially to a charity

According to the University of Alberta Canada:

Quote
A gift or contribution to a charity or public institution without conditions and/or restrictions. The donation is voluntary and there is no direct benefit to the donor in return.

You CHOOSE to give the donation, it is not a pay service, it's a DONATION! And by this official definition people whom post valid, meaningful ideas in the ideas sections of the forums are, technically, donating to the community as a whole by providing input and just being active with the Argonath community. You should not expect any reward, nor ask for one. It is all up to you, is it not? Are the owners of Argonath hacking into your IP, getting bank accounts, and TAKING the money? Hell NO!

As for the users whom can't legally have a Pay-pal account, please keep in mind that using any false information can be fully taken as "doctoring" identification documents and carry a VERY strict punishment under international law. If they figure it out, they will seize the account and hold all money in it for a period of time, in this time they will look into all the account's activities and make sure nothing has been illegally done other then violating their terms of agreements (the little "I Agree" button that you can care less if it means anything). If they suspect fraud or anything else, you could be in for a felony case. However, if you don't illegally transfer money or transfer any money that isn't legally yours, they will most likely return the funds back to you, but it's best to hope that you never hear from them after the notification of account seizure again. Best to just try to use another account, such as giving money to a relative and having them transfer the money from their account. If you use one of those internet money making schemes, that money could be illegally gained, because you have to be over 18 to legally recive the money, meaning the money itself could be subject to seizure. Now, this COULD happen, and Pay-pal could really care little about this, and unless you actually are using some drug money or big time money laundering, they will just send a nasty e-mail with a bunch of "    " faces in it. I have a Pay-pal account, and legally I can't. I only set it up for future reference, but still.

If the owners of Argonath wanted to sell in-game money, they can do that, thats their right, and it would still be a choice of the player. Now, is that fair to all the players? Maybe, maybe not. But the point is that it is a D-O-N-A-T-I-O-N and should rightfully reap no reward other then knowing that that money is going to a good cause.

Im 13 and I have a paypal account

Rusty is right.

You can get arrested for that.. Its basicly fraud..

Let your parents make a Pay-Pal account and then just make donnations with that account..

REMEMBER: You wont get anything in return but a server that provides you a adventure RP and game play.. Remember that you DONATE...and wont be given ANYTHING for it... All i see is people posting here to get something in return..YOU WONT GET ANYTHING IN RETURN OTHER THAN THE SERVER TO PLAY ON.. Its not called DONATE for no reason. So dont even think about asking for something like In game cash or an admin possition.. People donate for reasons like they love the server and they want to help the developers pay the server. If you take a second breather and read what gandalf said on the first post you will understand exactly what i am saying in this post..s

To the people who pay: i just want to thank you cause you give us a possible chance to have the argonath server LONGER..

*Edit* i see spartain made a post aswell.. Read a FEW times through his post.

AFAIK that's only when you want to verify your identity (or w/e) with a credit card number (or w/e). You can skip that part I think.

I have an account without verification/validation/we, and it works. Can send, can receive.

Yup. And PayPal isn't only handy way to buy something - it's handy when something goes wrong. I once ordered something from abroad, but I never received my order. So, I used the PayPal's complain function (can't remember its name exactly), and directed it for PayPal to take care of. After a week when the Seller hadn't answered to my messages, PayPal sent all the my spent money back to my account.

Due to some personal expenses in our families, Argonath will need your help the coming months.
Remember that while we have the luxury of our own servers and can put there more than standard we have to spend a lot of money on them each month.

However if every member would donate Eur 1.00 a month  it would already more than cover the cost. We have added a number of extra payment options on the donations page, including donation by phone and sms for Western Europe.

I guess it was donated on May 1 instead of May 3.
Donation received, but as Moneybookers does not record automatic, it is adjusted when we make our finacial reports.

Yes. With the SMS donations its not even certain we can match a name, but you can find the total in the financial reports.

But, eh, paypal fees are around 75%!?!!?!  :conf:

That's serious a lot. If you donate 20 euros, Argonath will only receive around 5 euros... Is there a way you receive a higher percentage of the given money? So something with less fees?

PayPal fees are not high, it are the SMS and phone fees which are very high.
PayPal fees are about 5%, but with a minimum of Eur 0.38
You can avoid the fees by marking it as donation, in which case PayPal does not charge fees.

On club Argonath, it says "Current financial position                 23.14", does that mean that the community actually are becoming self supported by donations / advertising?

I see what you mean. I don't think Argonath has been setup to have an SMS service for donations though, it must be the company that manages donations offering that service (if it had been available).

It is worth checking with the site owners, though.

So I will donate it. Considering there might be some fees around 18 kr should come in.

2 euros is not much I know, but I hope it helps anyways.

EDIT: Seems I cannot donate at all. And it asks me for an credit card. Cannot I just transfer the money from paypal to paypal? Help me out here Gandalf. I need to get rid of those 2 euros and I want to give them to Argonath.

First learn what DONATIONS mean... On other servers you do buy car for real life money, and that is not a donation... Now THAT is a BS...
Nothing all here? Yeah nothing, we do not demand from you any money to buy a car... Wanna car - go and get it...

I actually support those servers... Cos if people are idiots to spend their money on a stuff which they can get for free on other servers it is better for our server... Minus several idiots who are lazy that cannot play the game and just buy accesses setting the prioritet in level gains then in getting fun from playing with other guys...

So we do win from both sides - owners and players... Having fun and friendship...

Whoa dude I meant no disrespect, dont get all upset. And yes, on other servers I have bought lots of cars and houses with real life money. Some people donate shit tons of money every week. All I was saying was there is simply no true motivation for people to donate here, and if maybe there were some kind of in game reward, even if it was small... people would be more inclined to donate.

Im not sure exactly what currency you are using but we will use USD for example, for every 10$ USD donated, you get 50k IG cash. Thats really not alot for the money, but people with money would be willing to donate 100$ USD just to get 500k... constantly. If 10 players did this (which they would, and fast ) thats $1000 for the server. This would make the server lots of money considering the enormous base of players. I didnt mean to offend, just was suggesting a small reward.

I also realize this may breach the Argonath Vision as Gandalf has posted in the sense that all players are to be treated equally and none have any kind of status over another... but its not really any kind of status being given. Its simply a "thank you" and not asking for special treatment.
Title: Re: Donations

Please, learn the definition of the word DONATION.

Quote
contribution: a voluntary gift (as of money or service or ideas) made to some worthwhile cause

Quote
A gift or disposition of property, money, or a service for which no payment, or an inadequate payment is received.

. All I was saying was there is simply no true motivation for people to donate here, and if maybe there were some kind of in game reward, even if it was small... people would be more inclined to donate.

The motivation is supporting a great, stable and active community with friends, fun and enjoyment.

Read this: http://club.argonathrpg.com (http://club.argonathrpg.com) lots of people do donate.

Quote from: Argonath vision
Argonath does not offer privileges against payment. The equal status prohibits any possibility of payment for extra possibilities, rights or money in game.

I suggest you read this thread, http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?topic=38482.msg473637#msg473637 (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?topic=38482.msg473637#msg473637) it will explain things much better.

The time when you post something and when it is edited are two different things, the time when posted never changes...

But that is edited in after I posted.

But any way, if you want something in return for your money, you will get something, the satisfaction that you have helped a community stay alive.

Argonath has never given any form of reward for donations and it never will, but donations and advertisements are what keeps the community alive.

They are fooling you calling it "donations"... And you ate that shit...
I again recommend you to learn what word "donation" means... Exactly "no motivation"...

Right only OUR server is running on donations... All others do sell ingame stuff which means in commercial purposes... Probably they use word "donations" not to attract people's attention that they actually do sell an air... And people can get the same stuff for free on other servers...

On other server people are selling virtual money for rel life cash. the reason they call it donation is to evade taxes, as otherwise they wold have to report it as income.
You want to be so stupid as to throw your money on something that is worthless tomorrow if they decide to ban you or close the server ? Go ahead. And if you get banned you might even try to sue them for not delivering the service they sold to you, or report them for tax evasion.

If we are going to sell something, you will get something for it and not some byetes in your account.
Yes our donation do not bring in a lot, but we are not robbing underage people by giving them nothing and calling it cash or houses etc.

Yeah I was writing it but decided to remove... Cos then I had to explain that if servers will be reported to tax office they will have to pay taxes anyways, does not matter how do they call their income - donations or not...

Cos it simply does not qualified as donations...

aw, cmon, they will just pay money to be unbanned... There is also other way more simple: you just buy admins rights and no shit can tell you anything...
Bought admins rights, bought houses, all vehicles... And what to do now? Correct - to f*ck all those who did not by admins rights... The one "normal" fun...

You think where from came all those OOC/IC shits? From being bored...

This.

Ideas belong  here (http://www.argonathrpg.eu/forum/index.php?board=108.0).

But that is edited in after I posted.

No, its not.

when I was writing that in.

You said here that you did.

But perhaps I miss-read, but I'm fairly sure, when I started typing, it wasn't there.

But giving something in exchange for money is not a donation and saying it is is fraud, tax evasion and illegal.

The financial report over 2011  (http://club.argonathrpg.com)is published, we have done our accounts and calculations early.

If you will check you will see that while the advertising income has increased (more people clicking Google ads  ;)) the income from donations has droppen a lot since 2010.
The people who have donated in 2011 were in tmporal order:
Roman_Collin
TsghMike
Senate
Doggi
joshbfishing
Grzesiek
Dean_Willis
LVCK2065
Miami
Richard_Marlen
Louis_Gyimesi

Our expenses have increased due to adding the web server, but we expect to keep them stable for 2011.
The target for 2012 is, as always, to be able to finance all Argonath expenses from advertising, merchandising and donations.

Report is overdue, but here we go...
Since the last time Petey, Janek,Joedaman, Nexxt, Richard_Corleone and Statuz have donated.
This brings us on Eur 348,54 in donations for the first Quarter, a very good total.
Thanks to this we could spend Eur 150 to add RAM to the server.

This quarter the webhosting on the US account for the next two years is coming up, and we plan to finally start the merchandising.

You can use PayPal with it. Linking your bank account and/or using your debit card as a credit card, just as you can on any other online site offering purchases, will allow you to use the debit card via PayPal on eBay, depending on whichever of the two methods you would want to do.

Exactly. As long as you have a checking account, they should offer it. Most major credit/debit card company cards are accepted by PayPal anyway, so as long as you have one of them, you could alternatively use PayPal as the interface on eBay, which they provide native shopping support for, if you don't want to go through the hassle. You have many options here. :)

These both also work for donating to Argo directly!

As this script seems to be causing the lag through issues with it anyway

It's possible. RS5's scripts will be made from scratch, so that will eliminate that as a possibility. The RAM would also help cover issues with the server's performance itself.

I have a MASTER CARD debit card by the bank, Its accepted everywhere too. I have it since I was 14, The virtual card I create is VISA, Which can be easily created at entropay.com , Used that to pay my uni. application fee and a few orders when A credit card was needed. Generally I use the debit card to pay bills, recharge phones and buying off ebay etc. Its just the pay pal where none of the option work. It gives me authentication failed error.

Will try Gandalf's method tho.  :D

Link your bank account instead and it'll use that to transfer funds. You need your account and routing numbers to give to PayPal, though. If your bank offers online banking and you have an account for it set up, chances are you can retrieve those numbers that way. DO NOT POST THEM ON ANY WEBSITE, THOUGH! PayPal only uses them to set itself up to verify your account, and to transfer money to and from for transactions you do. Any other website should never ask for this information, unlike credit/debit card numbers.

Financial report Half Year 2012 (http://club.argonathrpg.com/)

Since the last update we received donations from Shejken, Impurity, MdeRooy and Edds.
The donations tab has been updated to include all.

As for the financial report, after a good start the second quarter slacked behind a little, but we are up from 2011 in all areas (including expenses). The expense however includes a part for 2012 and 2013 for our US hosting, so its actually on target.

Well, not quite banned, but my credit card wont work, because they do not think I'm I... And I have no
actually evidence to show that I'm I.. So, I can't use my credit card on Paypal services

How can you not proof that you're 'you'?
I mean, ID etc.

Also, since when does paypal say you are not the owner of a certain credit card?

I got no "Government issued ID", Only a ID from bank, with is valid in Sweden, but not at Paypal. Nor do I have driver license, so... I can't.. yet...
So they blocked my credit until I have showed some proof, I can't buy anything via Paypal at this time, arghh.. Nor can I remove my account or anything..

They do checks if you own a account at them, sometimes you have to show that you're the owner of that credit card if you, to exemple, logs in on different spots.

1st. This topic says ''Donations'' not ''scripting team applications'' so if you can't even get that right, you're not fit as a member of the script team.
2nd. Give Gandalf or even better, xcasio (gimli) a personal message, not a public message. If neither of them respond, maybe try Conroy.
Good luck.

Donations have been updated, and by the power of Sauron seem to be posting automatic again (at least the last one does)

Thanks go to Impurity, MdeRooy, SugarD, Brokman and LoHi for their contributions.
And of course to Janek.

As well a thanks to all volunteers who put in their time in developing and protecting our community.

Title: Financial report 2012
Post by: Gandalf on January 01, 2013, 05:31:12 pm
We have had some time to prepare the Financial report for 2012.

First of all thanks to those donating in December, Jakester, Gregersen, Philip_McRay and dhr.Marcel, and of course Janek.

With advertising income a bit down in the second half of the year, and donations keeping up but a bit less, we have contributed more as in 2011.
For 2013 we hope to add a new way of income, while keeping the current one stable.
We are going to invest in the protection software we are currently running in test, and in expanding the capacity of the servers, but hope to keep the cost stable.
As always, we aim to cover all cost, making a profit is never our target.
If you wish to read it, go to http://club.argonathrpg.com (http://club.argonathrpg.com) to see the latest.

Dear users,

This year is going to be especially costly for Argo. The projected costs are threw the roof for the end of the year, and are much higher than last year.

I'm not begging for you to donate, but those who feel the need to put in a little bit extra this year, it would be incredibly appreciated by the entire administration and above, as well as every single player who enjoys this great community. Every year, Gandalf covers the difference out of pocket, and whatever extra cash we have at the year's end gets recycled back into the fund for the following year. The same applies for deficits.

Please keep what I said in mind when donating. We really do appreciate that you all love the world of it's own, and just like you, we want to see it live on forever. :)

The donation list has been updated as far as possible with the donations of the last week.
These are the people who have contributed if even for 1 cent:
Gird3r
battle
Purple_HaZe
Plasma
megamidget96
Eliteterm
Husky
Hess
taseen11
Eugene.
Doggi
Phil
Janek
Zaila
MdeRooy
Robal
Weso
Nathan_West
KevinBlee
Ziad
MrTrane

There are a number of people missing from this list, as the SMS donations that enable worldwide service are not keeping a record of the user at this time.
By this method we received an gross amount of Eur 16,64 resulting in a future payment to us of Eur 5,55

Some data especially for Zater:

Total donations received since 2009 : Eur 2432 (USD 3235)
2009 : Eur 402 (USD  523)
2010 : Eur 923 (USD 1200)
2011 : Eur 158 (USD  205)
2012 : Eur 529 (USD 687)
2013 : Eur 420 (USD 546) - until today

Our expenses (2009 not recorded): Eur 6041 (USD 7853)
2010: Eur 1646 (USD 2140)
2011: Eur 2010 (USD 2674)
2012: Eur 2385 (USD 3100)
2013: Eur 720 (USD  936) - until today

Rumours say 'another server' receives in one year more as we spent in 3, and it all goes to hosting. Guess he should talk to us....

Note: we also receive money from advertising, the full details are on http://club.argonathrpg.com (http://club.argonathrpg.com) under 'Financials'

We have received some notices of funds being withdrawn instead of booked in to our account. If you donated by the Moneybookers button please check your account if the donation went or not, it was not received on our end.
It seems the button is only useful when the receiver has a merchant account. As we have a standard one, the only way is to send money directly, use [email protected] as MoneyBookers address.

Donations have been received from:
Paul, Astaroth, Ethan, magnusjedi and Khornatemonkey.

To Brian, JackWhite and Ronnie_Carter: we thank your intention but the fee was equal to your donations.

The SMS donations on club.argonathrpg.com will be included her as well soon, as they are expensive but work in many places.

And remember that with all the help you provided we are still at 33% of our cost, while nearly 50% of the year has passed... nope we are not yet getting rich :D

The mod itself, if it's the one I'm thinking of, is a bit old now and no longer supported by it's author...so it's probably lacking some updates somewhere which makes it work with PayPal properly.
Title: Re: Donations
Post by: Gandalf on August 24, 2013, 05:34:11 pm
All donations have been added to the list.

We have also added the financial report over the first half year of 2013. This shows the surge in donations, however the advertising income has dropped due to one company removing small sites from its clients, and the frequent outages reducing the number of visitors.

For the second half year our server costs are going to increase as the new game server is more expensive. The reduction in web server will compensate that only partially.
